UP Baguio College of Arts and Communication proudly announces its first tie up with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) through the public screening of the student films of the Broadcast Communication 130 class AY 2013-2014. The free screening entitled “FROM ILI TO CITY” runs from March 18 to 21, 10am at Cinematheque Baguio. Final screening will be on March 22 at 5:30pm.
The students formed three production teams and were able to produce three 25-minute short films using elements of non-fiction to create narratives that reflect social reality in modern day Baguio City and Benguet. The short films are: Out of Focus, Eroplanong Papel and Paano Isisigaw ang Isang Bulong?
Last February 15 and 16, BC 130 students successfully conducted a similar screening at Cinematheque Baguio featuring six short documentaries about common individuals whose status, means of livelihood and public image have become the trademark of contemporary life in Baguio City and Benguet. Grouped into six production teams, the students were able to come up with real stories about a Benguet miner, a young pony boy, a folk singer, a young Cordilleran student, a Burnham Park photographer and a vegetable farmer/dealer/vendor.
“The six short documentaries served as research materials from where the students were asked to extract the strongest element that can be used as character sketch and working storyline for their final film output,” says class adviser Dennis V. Gutierrez.
The screening is supervised by Mr. Michael Angelo Zarate of the FDCP-Cinematheque Baguio Marketing and Operations.
