IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR CANDIDATES FOR GRADUATION (2ND SEMESTER AY 2025-2026) Please check the important dates for graduating students at the infographic below. OTHER MATTERS: 1. For students who cross-registered at one time or another in other U.P. campuses ✓ check with your College SRE or OUR re: transmittal of official Report of Grades (ROGs), UP Form 5 (UP Certificate of Registration), and copy of change of matriculation, if applicable ✓ if none, follow-up and ask the campus where you cross-registered to transmit Form 5, ROGs, completion/removal grades, and changes of matriculation, if applicable, to U.P. Baguio NOTE: Students may hand carry ROGs and/or completion/removal grades ONLY IF these are in a sealed envelope. 2. For students who substituted courses ✓ check with your College SRE if official substitution forms have been accomplished and submitted to the Office of the University Registrar 3. Re: non-academic deficiencies ✓ check with your adviser or College SRE as soon as possible if you have completed all PE & NSTP requirements for graduation ✓ early enough, check with your College SRE or OUR if all non-academic documents are in order: senior high school card (Form 138), permanent high school records (Form 137) and legible copy of PSA birth certificate (with amended copy from Philippine Statistics Authority, formerly NSO and Local Civil Registry Office, if applicable) 4. Re: enrollment for residence and Form 5 is completely processed ✓ for those whose candidacies for graduation were previously withdrawn and for those who are only completing/removing one or two courses (i.e. thesis), make sure you are officially enrolled in residence ✓ should you fail to graduate this Second Semester, AY 2025-2026, make sure you enroll for residence in the Midyear Term, AY 2025-2026 or First Semester, AY 2026-2027; check if you already reached the Maximum Residence Rule (MRR) ✓ for graduating students enrolled in residence and with courses enrolled, make sure that your Form 5 is completely processed (stamped registered at the OUR) 5. For transferees ✓ for those who transferred with less than 66 units: make sure all forms for validation are in order (if applicable); for those who transferred with 66 units or more, check if equivalency forms (if applicable) have been accomplished and approved ✓ check completeness of entrance credentials, i.e. original official transcript of records, legible copy of PSA birth certificate, and marriage certificate, if applicable 6. For candidates for graduation with honors ✓ check with your College SRE re GWA and any underloading REMINDER: Check constantly with your College SREs on the status of your candidacy for graduation. Timbang ng Bayan: Ang Bigat ng Papel ng Kababaihang Anakpawis Ang timbang ay bigat. Ang Timbang ng Bayan ay ang bigat ng lipunan na pasan ng kababaihang anakpawis. Ang tunay na panukat ng isang bayan ay hindi ang paglago ng ekonomiya, pagtaas ng kita ng estado, o pagdami ng proyektong imprastruktura, kundi ang kalagayan ng kababaihang anakpawis na nagbubuhat ng araw-araw na buhay, sa palengke, sa mga institusyon, sa pabrika, sa sakahan, sa lansangan, sa palaisdaan, sa minahan, sa tahanan. Sa kanilang paggawa umiikot ang lipunan; Sa kanilang lakas nagpapatuloy ang produksyon; sa kanilang hindi nakikilalang pag-aalaga at paggawa nananatiling buo ang komunidad. Ang kababaihang anakpawis ay hindi lamang pundasyon ng lipunan, sila rin ang lakas na kayang magpagalaw at magbago nito. Kung may sukatan ang katarungan, makikita ito sa kung paano kinikilala, pinahahalagahan, at ipinaglalaban ang buhay at dignidad ng kababaihang anakpawis. Sila ang Timbang ng Bayan. RESEARCH | In the Philippines, representation of gays has long been dichotomous. There is the bakla, depicted as flamboyant, effeminate, and low class; and there is the gay, depicted as more refined and masculine-acting. With the advent of digital technologies, these representations of gayness have found their way into dating apps and social media, subsequently birthing the concept of the halata. This term first rose to prominence because of gay men in dating apps declaring “pass sa halata,” marking their rejection of a potential partner because of their being too much like the bakla. I move beyond the halata’s pejorative connotation on dating apps and study how it is being conceived and defined in the Facebook Group Samahan ng mga Halata. My results indicate that while the halata can now also be used to pertain to gay men who act straight. Furthermore, the halata is inherently sexual, is fascinated with queer content, and is empowered by his co-halata in online spaces to rally against larger issues affecting him and the queer community at large. My research project constitutes the latest documentation of the shifting terms of Filipino gayness. Later, Journalism Assistant Professor Leia Castro Margate and Community Journalist Maria Elena Catajan will react and share their experiences on AI, ethics, and press freedom. We are delighted to share that all three undergraduate degree programs of the College of Arts and Communication (CAC) have successfully passed the 481st AUN-QA assessment held on 20–22 January 2026 at the University of the Philippines Baguio. The BA Communication, BA Language and Literature, and B Fine Arts programs each received a rating of “Adequate as Expected,” which means that CAC undergraduate programs meet the AUN-QA guidelines and criteria. The Marshall McLuhan Forum is a media advocacy program that aims to promote responsible media practices. This installment covers topics spanning the navigation of AI, ethical journalism, press freedom, and the like. Joining us on this endeavor is the incumbent McLuhan Fellow 𝗣𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮, the current Community Lead of Rappler. She is a recognized journalist best known for her work as Rappler’s Malacañang reporter in covering the Duterte administration.
