𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐨 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞 The seventh constituent university of the University of the Philippines turns twenty-three on December 2. Since then, it has gone through rapid transformation that characterizes its status as an autonomous university. These transformations could be gleaned in several ways. First, is that it remains true to its positioning as UP in the North with its academic and research programs oriented towards its contiguous communities including the Cordillera region. Second, physical transformations were also an attribute of more than two decades as a constituent unit. Its three colleges—the College of Science, College of Arts and Communication, and the College of Social Sciences—needed their respective infrastructure to effectively function as degree granting units. UP Baguio’s history, however, predates twenty-three years. It was the “University of the Philippines College Baguio” prior to 2002, and it was so since April 2, 1961. The aggregate 64 years of UPB is a testament to its storied existence. These images are a mute testimony to UPB’s journey through history—of generations of mentors and students that walked through its halls, as well as the challenges and upheavals that it has confronted throughout the decades. Changes there may be, but its iconic character has not changed. It is one of the UP System’s smallest campuses, yes. But it sits on a city known for its old town charm. That charm is the hallmark of UPB. It is built small so that we can know each other, and we can see to one another. Text by Roland P. LOOK: A forum on persistent challenges endangering the integrity and survival of journalists was held today, Nov. 25, in commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the Ampatuan Massacre, which is considered the worst massacre of journalists in the country. The forum, titled "Media and Corruption: Ethics, Survival, and Accountability," was held at the Teatro Amianan of UP Baguio (UPB) and organized by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) in partnership with the Department of Communication (DC), College of Arts and Communication. NUJP Chairperson Jonathan De Santos led the discussion, highlighting the issues of journalists' ethics, accountability, and survival within the media landscape. The forum discussed how poor working conditions and economic insecurity continue to make journalists vulnerable to unethical practices. In addition, Dean Io Jularbal of the DC, one of the panelists, underscored the decline in students concentrating in Journalism in the university. He believes a "retooling" of Communication course is necessary by 2026. Other panelists included: Rolly Fernandez, former Inquirer Northern Luzon Bureau Chief and retired UPB journalism professor; Josiah Jeshua Bruno, College Editors Guild of the Philippines Representative and Feature Editor of White & Blue; and Dionisio Dennis, President of Baguio Correspondents and Broadcaster Club Inc. Student journalists and professional journalists, professors, and other interested individuals attended the discussion from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. | via UPB Communidad/Rahndal Rico #UPBCommunidad

The University of the Philippines Baguio supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4: Quality Education SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
