LOOK: A forum on persistent challenges endangering the integrity and survival of journalists was held today, Nov. 25, in commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the Ampatuan Massacre, which is considered the worst massacre of journalists in the country. The forum, titled "Media and Corruption: Ethics, Survival, and Accountability," was held at the Teatro Amianan of UP Baguio (UPB) and organized by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) in partnership with the Department of Communication (DC), College of Arts and Communication. NUJP Chairperson Jonathan De Santos led the discussion, highlighting the issues of journalists' ethics, accountability, and survival within the media landscape. The forum discussed how poor working conditions and economic insecurity continue to make journalists vulnerable to unethical practices. In addition, Dean Io Jularbal of the DC, one of the panelists, underscored the decline in students concentrating in Journalism in the university. He believes a "retooling" of Communication course is necessary by 2026. Other panelists included: Rolly Fernandez, former Inquirer Northern Luzon Bureau Chief and retired UPB journalism professor; Josiah Jeshua Bruno, College Editors Guild of the Philippines Representative and Feature Editor of White & Blue; and Dionisio Dennis, President of Baguio Correspondents and Broadcaster Club Inc. MGA TALร SA PISTA NG MGA WIKA 2025 Pinasinayaan ang pagdiriwang ng Pista ng mga Wika sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Baguio noong Setyembre 2, 2025 sa dalawang panayam nina Prop. Wilfredo Alangui mula sa Kolehiyo ng Agham at Kaw. Prop. Ruth Tindaan mula sa Kolehiyo ng mga Sining at Komunikasyon. Ibinahagi ni Prop. Alangui ang kanyang mga saliksik at gawaing-pangkomunidad at ang halaga ng mga wikang katutubo sa pag-aaral ng ethnomath. Bilang isa sa mga nangungunang dalubhasa sa etnomatematika, patuloy na isinusulong ni Prop. Alangui ang kapakanan ng mga katutubo at lokal na kaalaman at mga pamayanang patuloy na dumaranas ng dahas ng development aggression. Tinalakay naman ni Kaw. Prop. Tindaan, na bagong-talagang Komisyoner ng mga Wika ng mga Pamayanang Kultural sa Hilagang Pilipinas ng Komisyong sa Wikang Filipino, ang kalagayan ng mga wika ng Hilagang Luzon at Cordillera. Naghapag din siya ng mga proyekto para sa revitalization o pagpapasigla ng mga wika sa rehiyon. Optimistiko ang kanyang pagtanaw sa pag-unlad at pagpapasigla ng paggamit ng mga katutubo at lokal na mga wika sa Hilagang Luzon at Kordilyera. Muling inilunsad din noong Setyembre 5, 2025 sa CAC Teatro Amianan ang WIKAalaman, ang taunang quiz bee hinggil sa mga wikang Pambansa at kulturang popular. Dinaluhan ng dalawampung pangkat na binubuo ng mga mag-aaral mula sa iba't ibang programa, nagtagisan ng kaalaman sa wika, kultura at lipunan ang mga grupo. Nasungkit ang unang gantimpala ng grupong Banwa na binubuo nina Daniela Mae G. Magbutay, Keivan M. Virtudazo, at Reymark A. Ramos, mga freshmen mula sa BA History. Sinundan naman sila ng grupong Team Bog nina Lorraine Angeli Pazcoguin, Princess Laine Agustin, at Melvin Madelo Jr. mula sa BA Communication.
