Maligayang Araw ng mga Manggagawa! Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of Filipino workers who continue to build our nation through their daily labor. Did you know? Labor Day in the Philippines, known as โ€œAraw ng mga Manggagaw" has its origins in the first celebration on May 1, 1903, organized by the Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas. Thousands of workers marched to Malacaรฑang, demanding better working conditions and Philippine independence. The Philippine Assembly later formalized May 1 as a national holiday on April 8, 1908. This historic day reminds us that the rights we enjoy todayโ€”fair wages, reasonable working hours, and safe conditionsโ€”were hard-won through the courage and solidarity of those who came before us. As we celebrate this meaningful holiday, letโ€™s remember the continuing struggle for workersโ€™ dignity and rights, not just in our country but worldwide. #UPBaguio

UP Baguio Celebrates National Literature Month with "Reading the National Artists" Last April 22, 2025, the University of the Philippines Baguio hosted the enriching "Reading the National Artists" event as part of National Literature Month 2025. The gathering focused on this year's theme "Sikad Panitikan: Culture and Literature for Development," bringing together writers, faculty, students, and literature enthusiasts. They engaged with the significant works of National Artists for Literature F. Sionil Jose and Cirilo Bautista through readings and thoughtful roundtable discussions.
